Members' Tour: Giambologna, Court Sculptor to the Medici
Was Giambologna the most influential sculptor in Italy between 1550 and 1600, the period after Michelangelo and before Bernini?
Join V&A Guide Tony Mollett on this tour looking at Giambologna’s progress from being a French born young artist seeking inspiration by travelling to Italy to becoming the Court sculptor to the ruling family of Florence, the Medici. Tony will look at Giambologna’s only large-scale sculpture outside Italy, originally designed for a fountain at the Medicis’ botanic gardens, and in addition the many smaller scale works in bronze in the V&A’s collection.
