Marie Antoinette’s image and character was weaponised by her opponents through lurid tales and pornographic pamphlets. Years later, these rumours became coded language for same-sex desire between women (noted by 19th century diarist and lesbian icon Anne Lister).
Drawing on this queer history, Let’s All Have Some Cake resolutely features FLINTA* artists, performers, DJs, teachers and speakers – female, lesbian, intersex, non-binary, trans and agender with the asterisk disrupting the binary aspect of man and woman – but all allies are welcome.
Riposte, collaborating with the V&A on this event, is a queer collective that puts on very unique art events. It has evolved from a house party with art across every surface, from ceilings to bathtubs and performances on the dinner table, to large-scale multi-room art-raves taking over iconic clubs. Expect performances and installations everywhere throughout the night, alongside incredible DJs and sweaty dancefloors. Art in a rave: a beautiful combination!
