Born with a missing hip joint and a dislocated hip joint, Janet Jones had one leg longer than the other so worked with tailors and seamstresses throughout her life to ensure that her clothing sat straight on her figure. Watch as curator Natalie Kane uncovers the hidden details on Janet's fairytale wedding dress, revealing how it was carefully adapted to suit Janet's body, while still creating an iconic sixties silhouette.
We also see Janet's hand-painted orthopaedic wedding shoes, customised by the bride herself with a tin of white leather paint, at a time when ready-made adaptive bridalwear was non-existent. Complete with a tiny scrap of pink confetti still clinging to one heel, they are an amazing memento of Janet's special day and a brilliant example of adaptive bridal fashion made by users themselves.
